August 2008 Observations

August 12, 2008 05:00 - 10:00 UT

Watched the Perseids and saw several dozen althought I did not count. The viewing conditions were the best I've seen for the Perseids in this since I've been watching. Two other people came up with a slew of intensified cameras and a loop antenna system to record ELF and try to correlate it with optical data. I ran a StellaCam II taking time exposures and recorded 11 Perseids but the images are not worth posting. I did notice a lack of fire-flies this year during the shower. Seemingly, there were none where in all previous years they've been pretty prevalent.

The peak ended up happening the night of August 12 9:43 PM EST, (Aug 13 ~ 01:43 UT). Here's the IMO report/stats
