Hale-Bopp 08/23/95
Made my second observation of the Comet Hale-Bopp with very clear skies. I was able to see the comet at 48x, where last night I could not see it at 48x. I also observed it at 96x, 163x and 326x. The coma appeared to be at least 3 arc minutes in diameter and was very defined. It really stood out against the background sky although the nucleus was less stellar than last night.

Hale-Bopp 08/22/95
Made my first observation of the Comet Hale-Bopp at 96x, 163x, and 326x. The coma appeared to extend 3 to 4 arc minutes from the nucleus. The nucleus appeared to be stellar using averted vision.

METEORS 08/19/95
Clear skies, limiting mag ~ 6.0 (with the North American Neb naked eye) low humidity with some clouds to the West. Observed 4 sporatics and 1 Perseid between 9:30 pm and 11:30 pm EDT. Observed M27, M51, M27, Jupiter, NGC6946, NGC6939 and Cyganus Loop (bino's).

PERSEIDS 08/10/95 - 08/13/95
Logged only a few with Aug 13th being the clearest skies. Aug 10th thru Aug 12th mostly washed out by the full and past full moon and a high degree of atmospheric smut. Might have bagged one or two on film using 55mm lens. Well see. Next years must be better.

08/03/95:
The fireball from hell. Around 9:15 pm EDT I saw a fireball that basically ruined my dark adaptation. It was like looking at a welders torch. It started near Cygnus and lasted about five seconds. The fireball broke into at least four pieces as it headed twards the SE, downward at about 60 degree angle to the ground. Most impressive! One I'll never forget.

07/29/95:
Utterly clear skies for mid-summer...
Ringless Saturn, Jupiter
Andromeda Galaxy, Whirlpool Galaxy
Delta Aquarids Meteor Shower (some were blue-green)
Ring Nebula, Dumbell Nebula, Lagoon Nebula
