10/15/99 8:55 PM EDT - 10/15/99 10:25 UT
Comet Lee
1999 Oct. 16.02 UT: m1=9.0, Dia=3.0', DC=2...20cmL (48X)....G. Varros (Mount Airy, Md)

10/14/99 7:45 PM EDT - 10/14/99 8:25 UT
Comet Lee; Comet Lee is much different than on the 12th. It is back to a vague low contras blob.

Comet Lee
1999 Oct. 15.02 UT: m1=8.9, Dia=4.0', DC=2...20cmL (48X)....G. Varros (Mount Airy, Md)

10/12/99 9:00 PM EDT - 10/12/99 9:50 UT
Comet Lee; Comet Lee is showing an elongation at least 20 minutes long in PA 110 and a dim elongation in PA 80. The elongation in PA 110 becomes fairly obvious with averted vision at 48X and is also present at 122X. The contrast between empty space and the south side of the comet is much more pronounced when compared to the north side. A broadband filter was used for most of the observation. LM = 6.0; For the post-perhelion time and distance, this comet is putting on a show despite its overall low contrast and low condensation!

Comet Lee
1999 Oct. 13.05 UT: m1=8.7, Dia=4.0', DC=2...20cmL (48X)....G. Varros (Mount Airy, Md) [LM 6.0; Lee elongated at least 20' in PA 110 with very dim thread PA 80]

10/11/99 9:00 PM EDT - 10/11/99 9:30 UT
Comet Lee; Much larger in lower power. Condensation low without increasing as power is increased. Several CCD images were taken.

Comet Lee
1999 Oct. 12.05 UT: m1=8.7, Dia=5.0', DC=2...20cmL (48X)....G. Varros (Mount Airy, Md)

10/8/99 9:00 PM EDT - 10/8/99 9:30 UT
Comet Lee; After being clear and then clouding up for an hour and then becomming clear again, got to take a good look at comet Lee, also did some imaging of the comet with 400mm f/5 scope. The comet is basically unimpressive but is seemingly much larger at 48x.

Comet Lee
1999 Oct. 9.05 UT: m1=8.9, Dia=3.0', DC=2...20cmL (136X)....G. Varros (Mount Airy, Md)

Comet Lee
1999 Oct. 9.05 UT: m1=8.7, Dia=5.0', DC=2...20cmL (48X)....G. Varros (Mount Airy, Md)

10/7/99 9:00 PM EDT - 10/7/99 9:30 UT
Comet Lee; We are looking at this comet close to head on and through binoculars, it is a big and easy target perhaps up to 20 arc minutes in overall size although the actual coma size is around 3 arc minutes in size. Still hints of elongation. I hope to image it on 10/8/99.

Comet Lee
1999 Oct. 8.05 UT: m1=8.9, Dia=3.0', DC=2...20cmL (136X)....G. Varros (Mount Airy, Md)

10/6/99 8:00 PM EDT - 10/6/99 8:30 PM EDT
Comet Lee, about the same as on 10/5 but with the coma just a bit larger thus adding to overall brightness. Condensation does not really increase at all with an increase of power.

Comet Lee
1999 Oct. 7.00 UT: m1=8.9, Dia=3.0', DC=2...20cmL (136X)....G. Varros (Mount Airy, Md)

10/5/99 23:00 - 10/6/99 0:20 UT
Comet Lee, about the same as on 10/2 but just a bit dimmer. Subtle hints of elongation with averted vision.

Comet Lee
1999 Oct. 6.00 UT: m1=9.0, Dia=2.5', DC=2...20cmL (122X)....G. Varros (Mount Airy, Md)

10/2/99 02:00 - 03:00 UT
Took a long look at comet Lee. The comet is around magnitude 8.9 and condensation is around 2 with the coma around 2.5 arc minutes in diameter. The comet was unimpressive and condensation did not increase with magnification.

Comet Lee
1999 Oct. 2.10 UT: m1=8.9, Dia=2.5', DC=2...20cmL (122X)....G. Varros (Mount Airy, Md)
